We, the undersigned citizens and residents of Nigeria, are deeply concerned about the continuous rise in food prices and the increasing number of Nigerians struggling to afford basic meals.
The cost of staple foods such as rice, garri, beans, yam, and cooking oil has risen sharply, placing severe pressure on households across the country. Many families are now forced to reduce meal portions, skip meals, or rely on less nutritious alternatives, leading to serious health and social consequences.
Rising food prices have worsened food insecurity, especially among low-income earners, students, elderly citizens, and vulnerable populations. Farmers also face challenges such as high transportation costs, insecurity, poor storage facilities, and limited access to affordable inputs, all of which contribute to food shortages and higher prices.
Access to affordable and nutritious food is a basic human need. A nation cannot thrive when a large portion of its population struggles with hunger and malnutrition.
